The Oakland Athletics surprised a lot of season ticket holders with the signing of veteran pitcher Ben Sheets. Sheets, who was sidelined all of last season, has yet to pitch a game since his flexor tendon elbow surgery performed by Dr. James Andrew on February 9, 2010.
Along with that acquisition, the A’s have also inked OF Coco Crisp, 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff, INF Adam Rosales, INF Steve Tolleson, OF Gabe Gross, INF Jake Fox and RHP Jason Jennings.
The following left the team: OF Scott Hairston, INF Adam Kennedy, INF Nomar Garciaparra, RHP Brett Tomko, LHP Dana Eveland and RHP Santiago Casilla.
There is no doubt that the A’s have one of the deepest pitching units. The projected Rotation is shaping up to be RHP Ben Sheet, RHP Justin Duscherer, LHP Dallas Braden, LHP Brett Anderson and RHP Trevor Cahill. The Bullpen is rounding out to be RHP Andrew Bailey (closer), RHP Michael Wuertz, RHP Joey Devine, LHP Craig Breslow, RHP Brad Ziegler, LHP Brad Kilby and LHP Gio Gonzalez.
